Precision CNC Machining of Medical Instrument Components for a Swiss Customer
A precision medical machining case involving small 316L stainless steel features, controlled deburring, passivation and repeatable assembly performance.
From Customer Requirement to Stable Production
The reusable surgical-instrument component combined small diameters, internal threads, thin sections and milled positioning features. The customer required traceable material, reliable mating dimensions, clean edges and controlled post-machining cleaning.
Manufacturing Challenge
316L stainless steel generates heat and can work-harden during cutting. Tool wear could affect dimensional consistency, while the thin section required careful support. Burrs, sharp edges, oil residue and visible handling marks were unacceptable.
Our Engineering Solution
The main geometry was precision turned before the positioning features were milled in a controlled secondary operation. Sharp tooling, stable toolholding and optimized coolant controlled heat. Components then underwent controlled deburring, ultrasonic cleaning, passivation and protective packaging.
How We Controlled the Process
Inspection at Every Critical Stage
Inspection requirements were defined before production so dimensional, functional and cosmetic risks could be controlled throughout the order.
Project Result
Initial samples passed dimensional, visual and assembly inspection without process changes. Following approval, the customer released the full 500-piece order and added the component to its regular purchasing program.
