Five-Axis CNC Machining of Aerospace UAV Brackets for a US Customer
A five-axis production case combining lightweight 7075 aluminum, multi-plane features and verified positional accuracy for a UAV structural assembly.
From Customer Requirement to Stable Production
The mounting bracket needed high strength at low weight and accurate alignment with adjacent UAV components. The buyer required traceable 7075-T6 material, controlled hole positions, protected threaded areas and a durable hard-anodized finish.
Manufacturing Challenge
The bracket had a high material-removal ratio, thin structural sections and angled features located on multiple planes. Conventional machining would require repeated setups, increasing datum-transfer error and the risk of distortion.
Our Engineering Solution
Five-axis machining completed critical faces and angled holes with fewer setups. Balanced roughing, stabilization, semi-finishing and final machining controlled stress release. Dedicated fixturing supported thin sections, while thread and mating areas were masked before hard anodizing.
How We Controlled the Process
Inspection at Every Critical Stage
Inspection requirements were defined before production so dimensional, functional and cosmetic risks could be controlled throughout the order.
Project Result
All critical mounting surfaces, profiles and hole positions met the specified requirements. The five-axis plan eliminated two conventional setups, improved feature-to-feature consistency and allowed the complete 180-piece order to be delivered on schedule.
